Preparing for Surgery & a Trip to Build-a-Dino

Brinton is scheduled for surgery next week Friday, November 11th. He will be having a C1-C2 Posterior Fusion to stabilize his neck due to his Os Odontoideum and he will be in the hospital for roughly one week after he is released from PICU.

Last week we had to go up to Kansas City for a long day of pre-operative tests and consults. Our day started very early in the morning so we headed up there the night before so that we wouldn't have to leave our house at 4 in the morning. After checking into our hotel (the Ronald McDonald House was full) we headed over to Legends to take Brinton to Build-a-Dino at the T-Rex Cafe. We wanted him to make a new 'Friendosaurus' to take with him to his appointments and surgery to give him strength when we couldn't be there. He chose a red brachiosaurus, named him REX, and dressed him in a SUPER DINO costume because Super Dino's are strong dino's and that's what he needed by his side. lol. Brinton is so cute.

The next day was a really long day with MRI's, EKGs, Blood tests, pulmonary function tests and a long consult with the orthopaedic surgeon. Everything is set for next Friday for surgery.

EKG

Pulmonary Function Test

Best Part of the Day? Lunch at the Hospital Cafeteria

We arrive in Kansas City on November 9th for another round of Pre-op appointments and to meet with Hangar Orthotics which is the company that will be custom making his vest and halo orthoic which he will wear during and for about 3 months after surgery. It seems like it is an eternity away but the truth is it's only a week from today. *sigh* I'm sure I'll write more on that tomorrow.

Brinton is such a trooper! He'll be in our prayers for the next few weeks at least!
