...and the cement won... *pics*

Wednesday started off like any other day. Right after lunch I dropped Elise off at school (she's in afternoon Kindergarten)and left to run some errands. Roughly an hour and a half later I'm wandering through Walmart when I get a call from the school nurse.

Nurse: "Mrs. Bowles there's been a bit of an accident"

Me: "What? Who...which kid??"

Nurse: "Well Elise was playing outside during recess and she tripped on the blacktop...she's bleeding...." (and then she said something about blood everywhere, something about lots of swelling...possible stitches...concussion...I don't know what else it's all pretty much a blur)

Me: "I'll be right there"

So I rush over to the school after dropping Julianna at a friends house (knowing I'm about to take Lise in to the ER...)and I walk in to the nurses office and get this....ELISE IS SLEEPING! Ummmm yep...you read it right SLEEPING!

Head Injury + Sleeping= REALLY BAD STUFF!!

So the school nurse helps me carry Elise out to the car all disoriented and while I put Liam in his car seat she helped Elise in the car. We went straight to the ER where she continued to act kind of funny and her poor little face looked so AWFUL. So after a 4 hour wait it turns out that she DIDN'T need stitches on her forehead, she DID NOT have a concussion (thank goodness!), but she DOES have a possible broken nose. There was so much swelling, bleeding and fluid in her sinuses that they couldn't make a definitive call based on the x-ray. She was still having nosebleeds yesterday!!

So we've scheduled an appointment with an Ear, Nose, & Throat doctor for Monday morning to get a final ruling on whether it's broken or not. So I guess I will have to update then. For now I'll leave you with some pictures:

BEFORE: (Feb 9, 2009)

~Day One~

~Day Two~ (see all that swelling on the bridge of her nose?!)

~Today~

So I guess we can say that Elise got into a fight with the cement playground and the cement won. But, seriously, who knew Kindergarten was so dangerous!!!!

Oh my word that is the saddest thing I have ever seen! I bet that phone call made you sick, I know I would've been so panicked. I'm glad she didn't have a concussion or need stitches but that poor little nose!

Kindergarten is dangerous! I broke my nose the first time at that age too. Hopefully she doesn't also break it in third grade like I did.

Oh my heck! I can't believe they let her fall asleep! She looks awful. I so hope her nose isn't broken. It almost looks worse the 2nd day. Hope she gets better fast!

Sorry to hear that! Sometimes that dang cement does seem to jump and grab ya once in a while. Thank goodness it's once in while. I'm glad she didn't need stitches. But a broken nose is definitely not fun. Hope everything else is going okay!

Oh, I feel so bad for your little girl. :( It's hard enough to just BE a kid, but add an injury like that on top of it...? That's just mean. Let's hope the cement doesn't win next time.

I can't believe the nurse thought she had a concussion and let her sleep!!!!! I'm the least medical person in the world, and I know that! I'm glad she is getting better,

Poor Elise! Hope she got tons of TLC!

Isn't it terrible when you have a "bully" (aka cement) at scool beating up on innocent kindergarteners???

Heal quickly, cute little Elise!
