...Okay so they weren't actually "living" in my freezer per se...they were definately alive when we put them in there (yes, we actually put live insects in our freezer) but within 30 minutes to an hour they were perfectly frozen preservations of their once very alive hopping, flying selves. I have three words...DIS-GUST-ING! (or is that just one?!)
So I am sure you are waiting for the back story, right?! It's really not that INTERESTING...just Olathe School District's attempt at making 3rd grade girls not so girly by having them catch 6 very alive bugs....euthanizing them...and then hot gluing them to a shoe box for science. :)
However, it just so happens that MY 3rd grade girl wasn't really taking to the whole bug catching thing very well. Sure she had her big net and her funky rain boots on just in case she got stuck in the mud, but deep down inside she was FREAKING OUT! So of course ME being her totally cool mother decides, "I can do this...gimme that net" and then the shrieks and hopping about ensued (that was me, not the insects...)
In the end, we caught a yellow and red moth lovingly referred to as Dandelion, a grasshopper that broke its leg, a cricket, a fly (that was already dead on our window sill), a Katydid, and a yet to be identified bug that we referred to as BEETLE...then we stuck 'em in the freezer.
Last night, she taped, I taped, they collected leaves, he hot-glued and handled the bugs (gross!), she labeled, everyone decorated...it was a family effort to put it all together.
SHE BETTER GET AN A!
(but if she doesn't I'll love her just the same and be incredibly grateful that the bug unit is over)

3rd grade?! What keeps happening? I blink and it's like I've missed a couple of years. How can our babies be so big?
Definatly disgusting! I was in 6th grade when I had to do that and I think I had nightmares for a week. I think that's going to be a daddy job when we get there.
They couldn't possibly have asked her to touch bugs for a school project! That's so gross. She is lucky to have such a cool fam to help her out with her assignment. I don't know why but that fly drowned in hot glue made me laugh out loud.
Oh you had to see Jeremiah hot gluing them down!! He was just as disgusted as we were...hence the bugs drownin in globs of glue! LOL!
Way to go ashy. Yeah i did some glueing but catching and identifying and creating a colorful presentation is tuff work. I love you nd am proud of your effort.

Wow. Yucky. my sister didn't have to do that until highschool, and she was in the class for it. . .

All for the love of sceince. You go girls. I don't know how I would be about putting insects in my freezer, but I guess it works. I was wondering how Miah handled the bugs.
