What makes you Proud to be an American?

I feel so incredibly blessed to be a citizen of the United States of America and I am happy to call myself a true American. I thank my Heavenly Father each day that he saw fit that I should be born in such an amazing country at such a special time. The freedoms which we experience here (which we often take for granted) are truly a special blessing and I embrace it. What does it really mean to be an American? Anyone can say it but to really feel that...to really live it is so much more. It's not just putting on a tshirt with a flag on it once a year and shooting off fireworks. For me it's waking up each morning in a beautiful home, in a beautiful state. It's walking hand in hand with my husband...not behind him but beside him. It's being free to express my opinions, as a woman, as a "minority", as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, and as a republican, without being thrown in jail for doing so. It's being able to sing the Star Spangled Banner at the top of my lungs...it's being able to raise the flag high for all to see. For me, it's saying the Pledge of Allegiance and remembering that we are one nation UNDER GOD, for if it were not through HIM those great men would never have been inspired to travel here and establish this amazing country where we can enjoy all the freedoms we have. I am PROUD to be an American
