INDEPENDENCE DAY FUN!!

We were supposed to be in Utah this weekend for the Spotten Family Reunion but unfortunately being new to this job Jeremiah wasn't able to get the time off. We were upset but decided to make the best of it. Our first Independence Day in Kansas proved to be lots and lots of fun! First thing in the morning we headed over to Independence, Missouri to march with our kids in a Children's parade. There weren't very many spectators but there were a lot of children and their families participating in the parade. Our kids enjoyed waving and running up to the few spectators along the parade route and handing out lollipops. At the end of the parade we were all treated to refreshing Red, White & Blue popsicles and a reading of the Declaration of Independence.

After the parade it was on to a picnic in the park. We packed some lunches and headed over to the park for the kids to play. We spent about 2 hours there and had a BLAST! It was so great to not have any agenda and just enjoy the day and play.

When all the playing was done we decided to go check out the RIVERFEST on the Missouri River. We heard that RadioDISNEY was going to be there with games and prizes! Julianna was wearing a Winnie the Pooh dress that said RED, WHITE, & POOH and because she was the first kid they had seen all day wearing disney stuff they gave her a Pooh Bear Sing-a-long DVD!! Next, Ashlynne participated in the Hannah Montana Hula Hoop contest. The kids had to keep the Hula Hoop going while doing all these fun challenges like stepping forward, stepping backward, hopping, turning around in a circle, and clapping over their heads three times. Ashlynne was able to do all the challenges and keep the Hula Hoop going the whole time without it ever dropping so she won! :) They gave her a t-shirt and a dvd! She was so excited!!!When we got tired of being there we decided Dinner was in order so we went to Legends and ate at the T-REX restaurant. It's alot like the Rainforest Cafe only its all dinosaur themed. I had a Brontosaurus burger and I literally had to disengage my jaw every time I took a bite because it was so big!!

After an exhausting day of fun, we ended with a fireworks display right here in Olathe. It was so much fun to sit amongst friends and the kids were running around playing with all their friends. We love it here! As sad as I was to not be able to go to Utah for our family reunion I was really glad we got to experience 4th of July here because we had so much fun! (sadly these were the only pics I got of watching the fireworks...)
