My sweet little boy will undergo another surgery tomorrow afternoon. This will be surgery #7 in his long series of surgeries stemming from the Cystic Hygroma he was born with. While the actual cyst was removed during a 5 hour surgery at Primary Children's Hospital in SLC, UT when he was 16 mos old he still has had many complications that have continued since the initial removal. Including a large precancerous tumor of the tounge and several hemangiomas.
So...the newest surgery is tomorrow and it is on his teeth. When they did the surgery to remove the cystic hygroma they wound up removing one of his salivary glands because it was basically non functioningg and was part of the cyst. Due to this Brinton cannot maintain the correct PH in his mouth. His teeth are extremely soft and due to the incosistent PH and dryness he is extremely prone to cavitiies and decay. (I wish he still had the salivary gland...ug) We have been using preventive maintenance for several years including medicinal toothpastes but its only warded off the inevitable. Anyhow, tomorrow they are going to be extracting 5 teeth (it would've bee 6 but he pulled one out last night...yes pulled it out) They will also be doing pulpotomy's on all the remaining teeth (those are like mini root canals) and then capping them all.
I hate putting my little boy through all this and the truth is if it were not completely necessary I would just leave it. But it is completely necessary and he has been through much worse surgeries than this. He is so tough!!!
Brinton can't eat anything after midnight tonight and his surgery isn't till 2:30pm!! POOR THING IS GONNA BE STARVING! The surgery is going to be at a surgery center near the hospital and he should be able to leave several hours after if everything goes well. I would like to ask that everyone please keep Brinton in your prayers tonight. Thank you in advance!!!

He is such a tough kid. I know he'll do great. I can't believe he wont be able to eat for that long!!!!

I can't imagine having to watch one of my girls go through surgery. You're a tough mommy, and what a brave little guy to go through that much in such a short time. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family for a safe and successful surgery!

I'm sorry I didn't see this post until now. How is Brinton doing? I hope you guys are all holding up. What a brave little guy. I'm sorry he had to have another surgery, but I hope this solves the teeth problem for good.
