No TV, No Computer...Can We Do It??

My kids have been watching wayyyy too much tv this summer. Sure, Brinton has been in cello camp most mornings and Ashy went to girls camp but the little ones really haven't done much. I can't get them to play outside! It's insanity! What kid doesn't want to play outside? Frequent excuses are: It's hot, there's bugs (chiggers and mosquitos) out there, there's no one to play with, there's nothing to do. It drives me nuts. Instead the older kids have turned to the television and the computer to entertain them. Aidan and Liam have turned to making messes and destroying the house at every turn. They also watch the occasional tv show. I'm totally to blame because I'm too tired, too lazy, too big to move, too cranky to actually get up off my tush and engage them. I've literally seen the complete and total rotting of their brains right in front of me and have done little to stop it.

The last couple of weeks I have seen a few friends do a no media/no tv week with their kids and I finally decided to dive in and take the challenge. So this week (starting tomorrow...Monday June 25th) Our family is going on a television and computer fast. Our ENTIRE family....which includes me....which makes me all jittery! I need my Dance Moms and So You Think You Can Dance to get through the week :(

I'm sure we'll make it through and hopefully we'll find a few new things to keep us entertained that we can implement after the fast is over.

We managed to make it through last wekk, so I'm sure you can do it! If you ever want to hang out at a nice shaded park, let me know! Our kids can keep each other entertained!

We did this too, but for a month. It worked out better than I'd imagined, for which I was grateful. We found a whole bunch of other things to do and we played outside more!

Good luck!
