Cub Scout Day Camp....

In our tiny little pack of two Cub Scouts I have the privlege of being the Cub Master....and the Wolf Den Leader....and the Webelo Den Leader...and the Rodeo Clown...and, and, and, and.....

Because of the Tornado in Joplin the scout program in our district was in a little bit of a jumble for a little while because a lot of families were displaced. Knowing that the Cub Scouts really needed to have some sort of Cub Scout Day Camp one was organized and put on in about a month. (Anyone who has ever been to a Day Camp or been on staff at a Day Camp knows what an amazing accomplishment that is)

It was held over a 3 day period and in triple digit weather. The first day reached temps of 109 or 110 (denpending on who you asked) and being out in the hot, hot sun without much shade cover was....let's just say it was an experience. We drank a lot of water...A LOT of water.

This was my 4th year attending as a walking den leader and it was Brinton's last year as a Cub Scout! Next year my little boy will be a full fledge Boy Scout! WOW!

We did a lot of fun things including games, crafts, nature center programs, a nature hike, Shooting pellet guns, Archery, and a tour of the inside of a fire truck.

LOOK AT THIS NASTY SPIDER....

Brinton did a fantastic job at archery. Those bows were pretty heavy but he held it like it was as light as a feather.

He was actually pretty good at shooting the pellet gun, too. It wasn't about getting bullseye everytime but at being consistent in shooting in the same spot or area each time. He was really very consistent in his shooting. Sometimes I forget he is 10 years old. I still see him as this little 5 year old and I want to hover over him and protect him but then I see him sitting there so mature, holding and shooting a pellet gun like a pro...and I remember oh yeah he isn't a baby.

In all my years at day camp I had never had tho opportunity to actually try archery or bb's. I was pretty excited when they let the leaders give it a try. I shot 4 arrows...one was too high, one was too low, one went into my friend Jaimie's target (she was standing next to me) and one was a nearly, almost, so close, bullseye! LOL! Yay!! I think I need to work on my consistency.
Pull it back...

Let it fly...

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!

BULLSEYE! (sort of, kind of)

I had never held a gun (any type of gun....ever) So I decided to try my hand at shooting a pellet gun. I have no proof though because my cell phone died just as Brinton tried to take a picture of me. It was loud and I was nervous but I think I've gained more respect for guns and I don't really think I'm that scared of them anymore.

At the end of our three, triple digit, hotter than Hades days at camp I won the BEST WALKING DEN LEADER award for the whole camp. That pretty much made it all the sweat and dehydration worth it. :)

DEN 4 Boys (WEBELOS) and Walking Leaders it's a picture of a picture...hate when my scanner doesn't work.
