Anyone need some minty green socks?!

When I was 11 I did my first load of laundry. It was hefty load of whites and to feed my curiosity I threw in a RED slouch sock (yes I said slouch sock...remember those?!)Well the obvious outcome was that all the whites were a beautiful shade of pink and I had to redo that load of laundry with a lot of bleach to return the clothes back to an acceptable shade of white. I never did that again....until now....roughly 17 years and 42,568 loads of laundry later.

Only this time it wasn't on purpose.

On Sunday we were at a musical fireside in Independence, MO (about 40 min away) Julianna developed a stomach bug and puked in the cultural hall at the church. I ran to my car to fetch a change of clothes for her and went to change her in the mother's lounge. Julianna's stomach had other plans and as soon as I had her in the fresh clean clothes she proceeded to puke and puke and puke. Repeatedly. Most of it got all over me and my lovely long hunter green dress. I cleaned her up as best I could, cleaned myself up and we headed home to endure the longest...smelliest 40 minute drive home. To add to the mess of it all we passed our exit so our drive was even longer and we arrived after 10pm. When we arrived home (really tired and ready for bed) I promptly removed my nasty stinky green dress and threw it in the washing machine to wash with the next days load...

When I woke up in the morning it was laundry time. I gathered all my whites and put them in, started the washing machine, and walked away. How I missed the green dress lying at the bottom of the washing machine waiting to be cleaned, I don't even know but I did. So at the end of the cycle I was shocked to find a glob of greenish clothes where my nice white clothes used to be. Then I remembered! UG! So I took out the culprit...my now clean green dress and rewashed the load with a lot of bleach. Everything turned white again except a pair of Jeremiah's socks. Isn't that wierd only ONE pair of socks stayed green...just one...how ODD!

Unfortunately, he isn't too keen on wearing minty green socks...maybe for St. Patty's Day?!

Those are some sweet socks! I'm glad the rest of the load turned out okay. I hate when I do that whole forget-something-in-the-washer thing and find a nice surprise later on.

I always buy colorful socks, mostly because white ones get so dirty. Sorry about the smelly drive home, that's almost as bad as driving home with a baby in messy diaper.

Fortunately I haven't had pink or any other color clothes BUT I have washed a load of laundry that had chapstick in with it (the ONE time i don't check the pockets!!). A bunch of t-shirts had oily stains on them, grrr!
My daughter is famous for leaving pennies in her pockets and rocks too for that matter, so now I have to double check everything.
Good luck finding a home for the minty socks!! :)

I love those socks, they remind me of the socks I wore when I was five and fashionable!!! I have to admit I have done the whole dye your whites a different color thing BUT it has only happened when my sister is visiting (and it is her clothes.) Go figure. Well I am glad your laundry is back to normal and I am sure Jeremiah can find something to wear with his new beautiful green socks!

nice socks. My mom use to do that to me all the time. That is why I started doing my own laundry. I swear my mom knew what my favorite shirt was and she would put a red shirt in with it. We would have to be careful not to put our clothes down the laundry shoot.
