Mother's Day & Liam's Blessing

Mother's day started a day early for me. It began yesterday with a delicious brunch at the Cracker Barrel..yum yum yummy! I am so glad that we live in Kansas because the closest Cracker Barrel from Vegas is all the way in Utah! Next it was on to the mall where Jeremiah let me loose on a shopping spree at Steve and Barry's (a clothing store) to get a new wardrobe. He took the kids and left me with Liam to try on all the clothes I wanted :) 3 hours later I emerged with 4 bags full of goodies! This morning my beautiful children gave me their beautiful home made cards and gifts. Jeremiah then gave me another present a beautiful new Willow Tree statue to start my collection (I have been asking for a long time to start collecting them). My parents also gave me a Willow Tree statue that was called new life and it has a mom, dad, and new little baby. I can't believe how incredibly blessed I feel to be a mother! (and not just because of the gifts...read on)

So what better present than to have my youngest child blessed on Mother's day?! Today we had Liam given a name and a blessing during sacrament meeting at our church. It was a very beautiful blessing. In our family the song "Teach Me to Walk in the Light" is a very special song. When my family converted to the church I was 8years old. The sister missionaries who taught us the discussions and prepared us for baptism taught me the words to this song in Spanish (I was attending a spanish speaking branch at the time) to sing at my baptism. As a newly baptized member of the church I stood in front of a large congregation of people and sang the words to this song and felt such an amazing peace that was much greater than I thought any 8 year old could know. The things mentioned in the song like "teach me to pray to my father above" and "Teach me to know all the things that are right" are some of the simplest things yet the most important. This song is often sung at our Family Home Evenings and is a favorite of our famly. When Ashlynne was baptized this passed December I taught her the words in spanish and she stood up in front of a large congregation at her baptism and sang in both english & spanish our "family song" Teach Me to Walk...

This morning as we began sacrament meeting I felt the spirit so strongly as I realized the opening song was our family song, our hymn, Teach Me to Walk in The Light. How fitting for this very special day, Liam's blessing. Singing that hymn brought me to tears as I realized my very special duty as a mother to my beautiful children, "come little child and together we'll learn..." I may not have all the answers and often I learn more from my children then I can ever show them. Funny how this blogging community can bring us together the way that it does. I have learned so much from reading your blogs, little tidbits of information, little glimpses into ways I too can strengthen my family. Motherhood is such a blessing and I am so thankful to all the mothers out there that are a constant example to me.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

It looks like you had a wonderful Mother's Day! Liam looks like a little angel in his blessing outfit. I love "Teach me to walk in the Light" and I never thought about it but you are right it does tell us the fundamental principles of the gospel. Your children look so happy to have their mom and brother back. You have such a great family. We miss you, but are glad you are with your family...

Oh, Alida, Liam looks so precious in his blessing outfit. He already looks like he is getting big! You look fabulous. I love that song too. It has so many teachings that are near and dear to my heart. It sounds like your mother's day was amazing. I've never heard of a husband leaving and letting the wife shop for hours. Lucky you! You deserve it. Congrats on the blessing and Happy Mother's Day!
