Homeschooling my Kindergartner

Julianna is a very bright child, we often say she is 4 going on 10.. Last year at her 4 year well child check they did a cognitive evaluation and at 4 yrs, 1 week she tested at the level of a 6 to 7 year old. Unfortunately, here in Kansas our Kindergarten cut off is August 30th and Julianna's birthday is September 29th. Needless to say I was very disappointed about her having to wait an extra year to attend school when she was obviously both socially and cognitively ready to go.

I decided to look into various preschool programs to see if she would benefit from one and also if it would keep her somewhat occupied while everyone else was in school. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that with her abilities a normal preschool program wasn't really going to hold her attention or teach anything more then she already knew from my teaching her here at home. That's when I knew that the best option for Julianna was to find a Kindergarten curriculumn that would meet her needs and home school.

We finally decided on Abeka Academy's Kindergarten program. It's perfect for us because we have each of the lessons video streamed to the computer. Each lesson is like an actual class and we have lots of supplemental activities planned to keep it fun. I really feel like she is going to just grow and blossom. We are still waiting for our materials although we do have access to the lessons already. Our plan is to start school on Monday. Julianna cannot wait to start...everyday she asks is my school stuff here yet?!?!

We are so excited about starting home school and who knows maybe if we really like it we may just continue home schooling for 1st grade!!

What a great idea! I think my youngest is going to need something like that. She's very bright as well and speaks like a 6 year old rather than a 3 year old. I might just ask some questions down the road about what you think about the program. :)
